A German political party proposed a government cap on doner kebabs. Around €7 billion, or around $7.5 billion, worth of doner kebabs are sold every year in Germany, according to The Guardian and The Independent. The party plans to propose a government price cap of €4.90 (around $5.30) or €2.90 (around $3.10) for young people, The Guardian reported. If those decrease, then kebab prices also decrease," Gebel told BI. "The kebab price will remain high if the government does not change anything," she said.

I moved to Helsinki without ever visiting Finland because I read that it was the happiest place on earth . Finnish people don't wear shoes in the officeWhile it's not unusual to take off your shoes before entering someone's house, most Finnish offices also have a no-shoe policy. Some offices will have "indoor shoes," but for the most part, colleagues will wear socks. Reindeer meat tasted good to me, very tender and rich earthy flavor. I see reindeer meat mostly sold in local markets throughout the city.

I've been following the Mediterranean diet for years, and I've learned a lot of simple recipes. I take a minimalist approach to my diet and often only use a few ingredients in my meals. I've discovered a love for orange, avocado, and shrimp saladI wasn't initially convinced that orange, mustard, and shrimp went together. I've concocted a Mediterranean version of a make-your-own pizzaIf you have an at-home dinner date coming up, make some puff-pastry pizza together. I've only recently discovered tofu, and I've been enjoying adding it to salads and grain bowls for a protein boost.

Tourists visiting the Sacré-Coeur Basilica, the magnificent snow-white cathedral towering over northern Paris, tend to descend the Butte Montmartre the way they came up. But once they’ve had enough, they’ll most likely make their way down the south side of the hill, following the path of the funicular toward the recognizable sights of central Paris. This Paris exists mostly outside the gaze of tourists, the whopping 12.7 million people who visited the area this summer. But they refuse to abide by the half-theme-park, half-museum ambience that prevails in much of central Paris. Here, another Paris is alive and kicking.

A gas explosion that ripped through a barbecue restaurant in northwestern China killed at least 31 people, officials said on Thursday, hours after the blast had turned the restaurant into a charred ruin. The explosion hit the two-story restaurant in Yinchuan, the capital of the Ningxia region, at 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday, when it was busy with customers eating lamb kebabs and other dishes cooked on gas burners. Firefighters rushed to the scene, where thick smoke rose into the sky and shattered glass and debris covered the street. Chinese Communist Party authorities have become increasingly effective at withholding details of accidents and disasters until they are in full control of the situation. A brief initial report from Xinhua, the official news agency, had said one person was killed and 20 injured.

GAZIANTEP, Turkey—This southern Turkish city was often hailed as the country’s food capital for its rich variety—from liver kebabs and yogurt-thickened stews to an intricate dessert known as a nightingale’s nest. After this month’s earthquakes, many of its eateries switched to simpler fare to feed thousands of people across the devastated region. Scores of restaurants, cafes and street food vendors joined spontaneous efforts to feed the city of about two million people and its neighbors immediately after the Feb. 6 earthquakes.
CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — Last November, at about midnight, Omid was lying in bed in his new home in Cape Elizabeth, Maine — exhausted, but unable to sleep. On this night, and on many nights during Omid's first few months in Maine, Nasir was soon at his door. Omid's family arrived in Maine just before Halloween in 2021 and recently celebrated one year in Maine. Catholic Charities, the local refugee-resettlement organization in Maine, was working with Omid's family to help them resettle. George Haj of the bank employees syndicate said the holdups were misguiding anger that should be directed at the Lebanese state, which was most to blame for the crisis, and noted some 6,000 bank employees had lost their jobs since it began. Authorities have condemned the holdups and say they are preparing a security plan for banks. "They are all in cahoots to steal from us and leave us to go hungry and die slowly," she said. To aid her escape, Hafiz posted on Facebook that she was already at the airport and on her way to Istanbul. Abdallah Al-Saii, an acquaintance of Hafiz who held up a bank in January to get some $50,000 of his own savings, said more hold-ups were coming.

As COVID-19 was sweeping the globe, speculative bookings to faraway places like the Maldives plummeted amid the uncertainty in future travel restrictions. In order to generate revenue, many hotels in the Maldives started offering great deals on fully refundable all-inclusive package deals. Here's how seven days at The Standard Huravalhi Maldives permanently changed my booking approach to one of my favorite destinations.
